The North Hatley Library Association, an independent library founded in 1896, invites applications for the position of part-time Librarian. (16-20 hrs.per wk.)

The ideal candidate must be fluent in French and English, computer literate (database management, word processing, spread sheets, web site maintenance), possess some library training, enjoy serving the public and able to work without supervision.

JOB DESCRIPTION


Under the direction of the Board, and more directly, the president, the employee is responsable for the overall functioning of the Library, and duties include:

Administrative duties:
  • Preparation of applications for grants,
  • Participation at Board meetings,
  • Picking up and sorting mail,
  • Management of administrative documents,
  • Liaison with other libraries,
  • Correspondance.
Public service:
  • Overall responsibility for the circulation of books,
  • Notification of people with overdue books,
  • Shelving of books,
  • Help with training of volunteers,
  • Management of membership list and renewals (database),
  • Reference work,
  • Inter-library loans,
  • Publicity and help with exhibitions and special events, including the web site,
  • Animation of school programme,
  • Preparation of news bulletins.
Technical services:
  • Classification of new and gift books,
  • Entering and maintaining the computer catalogue,
  • Weeding the present collection,
  • Sorting gift books,
  • Preparation and reception of English book orders,
  • Management of the computer,
  • Ordering of supplies,
  • Repair of books.
