Documents

The adult collection consists of 12 000 documents in French and English, and include books, books on tape and CD, large print books and CD-ROMs. There are documents in every subject. Especially popular are history, biography, cooking, home repairs and art books, as well as the latest in fiction. There is an interesting collection of books by North Hatley's 102 (at last count) 'local authors'.

The children's section of 5 500 titles offers books and books on tape for all ages, from picture books for the very young, to fiction and non-fiction for the teen-ager. The Internet and CD-ROMs are also available to the young people.

Internet

An exciting new service is access to the Internet, through a new computer provided by a grant from the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec. The computer can also be used to consult CD-ROMs, made possible by a donation from the M.E. Hart Foundation.

Visits by the Students of North Hatley Elementary School

Each class visits the Library at least every second week. The students are often read stories, to introduce them to the pleasure of reading. The visit may also offer an introduction to library skills, or a chance to do research. The children also have time to choose books to check out.

Service for the Homes

A part of the collection of large print books is kept at the Connaught Home. The residents can help themselves, and volunteers visit regularly to take books to the less mobile readers. Residents of La Maison Blanche are brought to the Library by a volunteer.

Seasonal Events

Easter Egg decorating using the Ukrainian technique is very popular among all ages.

Inter-Library Loans

The Library will be happy to borrow documents from other libraries.

Other services offered by the Library include art exhibits, story hour for children in summer, visits of authors, poetry readings and trips to art exhibitions in other cities.
